Honors College Faculty Fellow - Launch

The Honors College is delighted to announce the launch of the exciting Oakland University "Honors College Faculty Fellow" program. 

The inaugural Honors College Faculty Fellow (for Winter 2014) appointment offers an opportunity that will recognize the contribution of a faculty member to the support of undergraduate research excellence and to the development of undergraduate research resources at Oakland University. 

Full-time or part-time faculty are eligible.

The Honors College Faculty Fellow will also contribute to advancing the contribution of The Honors College to the university, building university-wide on our aim of developing stronger faculty, student and staff opportunities to work with the Honors College.

-- Role of the Honors College Faculty Fellow --

To provide direct service to The Honors College Dean's office on average of 6 hours a week.

To work with the Dean of The Honors College in developing and implementing undergraduate research resourcing strategies, supporting undergraduate research events and the development of the Michigan Center for Undergraduate Research (MCUR) and the Center for Research Leadership (CURL).

The Honors College Faculty Fellow will assist in preparing materials for future Honors College Sophomore Imagination Laboratory and HC390 Thesis Preparation courses.

The Winter 2014 Honors College Faculty Fellow will also assist in organizing a student team to work with the HC theses archive in the library, including pursuing the digitizing of thesis AV materials from the 1980s and 1990s.

The Fellow will also contribute to OU's Michigan Academy (MASAL) conference promotion and hosting team - Oakland University is hosting the 2014 MASAL conference on 28 February 2014, with the Dean of the Honors College acting as MASAL faculty liaison/host. The Fellow will join this team, which also includes members of Academic Affairs. 

Other duties, as explored and discussed with Dean of the Honors College.

Full or part time faculty.

Passionate about undergraduate student excellence and the development of undergraduate research.

Demonstrated evidence of developing undergraduate research at Oakland University.

Some knowledge of The Honors College, or a strong desire to gain further knowledge of it.

Beyond the faculty fellow's own disciplinary specialisms, additional areas of expertise might include research methodologies and research leadership; inter-disciplinary collaboration; research project leadership and management .

-- Compensation -- 

The Honors College Faculty Fellow will be paid the equivalent of one course compensation (part-time faculty will receive this as direct compensation; full-time faculty will receive this as $1500 to their department's Supplies and Services, plus teaching replacement costs)
