U.S. Senator Carl Levin to visit OU

Senior U.S. Senator Carl Levin will visit Oakland University Tuesday, April 11. The public is invited to a question and answer session with Levin at 1 p.m. in the Oakland Center Banquet Room B.

Levin also will tour the Fastening and Joining Research Institute (FAJRI) at OU during his visit and hear an update from Sayed Nassar, founding director of FAJRI, on research progress and the OU vision for FAJRI.

FAJRI is a research center dedicated to the advancement of the science and technology of fastening and joining of materials. Levin has been instrumental in helping OU secure necessary congressional funding for FAJRI.

Levin is the ranking Democrat on the Senate Armed Services Committee, where he has earned a reputation as a strong supporter of national defense. He was an early and consistent advocate of efforts to prepare the American military to combat terrorism and other emerging threats of the post-Cold War world.

The senator is best known for his efforts to make the U.S. government more efficient and more ethical. His efforts have led to the protection of federal employees who expose wasteful practices, significant reductions in federal procurement costs, and simplified and strengthened ethics requirements for the legislative and executive branches of the U.S. government.

In addition to the Armed Services Committee, Levin serves on the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, Intelligence Committee, Small Business Committee, Great Lakes Task Force, Smart Growth Task Force, Auto Caucus and the Auto Parts Task Force.

At the April 11 event, Levin will respond to questions from OU students. His visit is sponsored by the Center for Student Activities.
