Coalition Thanks Congress for Supporting Titles VII and VIII in FY 2016

April 10, 2015—The AAMC-led Health Professions and Nursing Education Coalition (HPNEC) April 8 sent a letter thanking Members of the House and Senate who supported the Congressional sign-on letters to appropriators requesting funding for the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA)’s Title VII health professions and Title VIII nursing workforce development programs in fiscal year (FY) 2016.

The letter notes the programs are an “invaluable component of the health care safety net,” and with the nation’s growing, aging, and increasingly diverse population, “continuing the federal investment in health professions workforce development will be key to ensuring access to high quality care for all.”

In the House, Reps. Michael Burgess (R-Texas) and Diana DeGette (D-Colo.) were joined by 80 colleagues in support of $280 million for Title VII programs in FY 2016. Reps. Lois Capps (D-Calif.) and Richard Hanna (R-N.Y.) were joined by 73 colleagues urging a “significant investment” in Title VIII programs.

In the Senate, Sen. Jack Reed (D-R.I.) was joined by 28 colleagues in support of $280 million for Title VII programs in FY 2016, and Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.) was joined by 31 colleagues in support of $244 million for Title VIII programs in FY 2016.
