Students invited to ‘Halfway to Graduation’ T-shirt rally

At OU, we're committed to helping students stay focused on the finish line. Through the Second Year Experience initiative, sophomores can obtain their free T-shirt during an academic advising appointment, which should be worn at the April 7 rally for a chance at prizes like gift cards and an iPad.
To celebrate and encourage academic progress, Oakland University’s Second Year Experience (SYE) program will be hosting a Halfway to Graduation T-shirt Rally from noon – 1 p.m. on Tuesday, April 7, in the Oakland Center Fireside Lounge.

The event is free and open to all students, but only those wearing an exclusive SYE T-shirt are qualified for a prize drawing of an iPad mini, OU swag and Barnes & Noble gift cards. To receive an SYE T-shirt (while supplies last) students must attend an advising appointment in their second year. Students who attend a second SYE appointment will also receive a pair of earbuds. Visit the Find My Academic Adviser page to make an advising appointment.

Meeting with an academic adviser at least once per semester helps students plan and monitor goals established in SYE’s five engagement areas:

  1. major/minor exploration
  2. major engagement
  3. career/research engagement
  4. campus engagement
  5. community engagement

Recent statistics point to the value of OU’s strong focus on advising. For the university’s 2012 freshman class – the first to go through the First Year Advising Center and Second Year Experience – 49 percent are now juniors, a 10 percent increase over the previous year.

To celebrate and encourage academic progress, sophomores can obtain their shirt during an academic advising appointment and then wear it to the April 7 event to win prizes.
