Oakland Symphony Orchestra to perform with acclaimed organist March 29

The Oakland Symphony Orchestra (OSO) has added a special concert to its schedule this season as part of its spring Detroit Residency. At 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 29, the orchestra will perform in the historic Cathedral Church of St. Paul in Detroit. The concert will feature guest organist Jeremy David Tarrant, who will perform the “Concerto for Organ in G minor,” by Francis Poulenc.

Jeremy David Tarrant will perform with the Oakland Symphony Orchestra on March 29.

Tarrant is Organist and Choirmaster of the Episcopal Cathedral Church of St. Paul, and the recipient of numerous awards and honors. He is particularly noted for his insightful performances of French organ music of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.  An active concert organist, he has performed in the Washington National Cathedral; St. Thomas Church, Fifth Avenue, New York; St. James Cathedral, Toronto; St. Patrick’s Cathedral, New York; and Chicago’s famed Fourth Presbyterian Church.

The OSO, which is the orchestra-in-residence at Oakland University, will also perform “Fanfares liturgiques,” by Henri Tomasi; and “Dances of Galanta,” by Zoltan Kodaly. Concertgoers are sure to find the music enhanced by the ambience of the cathedral’s vaulted space. Read more about the organ at St. Paul’s at the church’s website, detroitcathedral.org/wp2015.

The Cathedral Church of St. Paul is located at 4800 Woodward in the Detroit Cultural Center Area across from Wayne State University. A lighted, monitored parking lot is behind the Diocesan Cathedral Center. It is entered via a one-way alley — Cathedral Lane — from eastbound Warren Avenue. A map is available via google and detailed information can be found on the church’s website.

Tickets are $20 general admission and $10 for students. Tickets can be purchased in advance without service fees at startickets.com or by phone at (800) 585-3737. They can also be purchased at the Center for Student Activities Service Window in the Oakland Center or at the Varner Hall Box Office. Tickets will be available at the venue one hour before the concert begins. Complete ticket information is available at oakland.edu/tickets. For additional information, call (248) 370-2030.
