Luke Fleer a finalist in Oakland County Executive’s Elite 40 Under 40

An Oakland University employee is among the top three finalists in the Oakland County Executive’s 40 Under 40 Class of 2015. Luke Fleer, regional director of development, was named to this year’s class, which recognizes outstanding professionals under age 40 who live or work in Oakland County and have made a positive difference in their field and community. A public vote is now underway to determine the overall winner. Votes can be cast online, once every 24 hours, through 5 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 26.

The winner will introduce Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson at his State of the County address on Wednesday, Feb. 4, and will receive free business classes from the county’s One Stop Shop Business Center, among other opportunities.

Fleer joined OU in 2007 as coordinator of the newly created Alumni Admissions Ambassador Program. He later served as associate director of alumni engagement before moving to his current role. As regional director of development, Fleer helps alumni and donors in Metro Detroit and throughout the country discover opportunities to use their talents and resources for the betterment of the OU community and beyond.

In addition, Fleer and his wife established the David Kirkpatrick Scholarship at OU in memory of a longtime friend and mentor. Fleer was appointed by the Rochester Hills City Council to the Historic Districts Commission and was also part of the Leadership Greater Rochester Class of 2013. He served on a Pure Michigan subcommittee for the Michigan Economic Development Corporation and is active in the Detroit Economic Club. He is the subject of the award-winning cover story in Hour Detroit Magazine’s 2014 Health Guide, which chronicled his comeback from a near-fatal car accident.

Along with Fleer, this year’s 40 Under 40 Class includes two other professionals with OU ties. Gregg Garrett, CEO and founder of CGS Advisors, LLC, received his Bachelor of Science in Systems Engineering from Oakland. He serves on the Industrial and Systems Engineering Advisory Board for OU and teaches a course he developed called “Competing in the Connected World.”

Takisha Harper, director of information privacy and security audit and risk management for Henry Ford Health System, holds a Bachelor of Science in Management Information Systems from Oakland.
