Tech248 Launch Further Solidifies Oakland County’s Tech Industry

Tech248, an initiative of Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson, was designed to harness the power of the 2,000 tech companies in Oakland County. Tech248 helps tech companies collaborate and attract, develop and retain talent while promoting Oakland County as a global technology hub. Over the past few months, the Tech248 initiative has seen significant progress.

Tech248 provides access to talent, connectivity, and branding to tech companies. With 2,000 tech firms and 42,000 jobs in the tech field, Oakland County has more than twice the number of any other county in Michigan. These company types include software development, network/data, mHealth, game development, connected cars, digital media, mobile technology, cyber security, and other evolving technologies. Oakland County currently holds 58% of Metro Detroit’s IT/Tech companies.

Tech248 officially kicked off on November 5th at Koala Co-Work in Southfield. The kickoff event was preceded by the launch of their MItech248.com web page. The web page is intended to highlight tech in Oakland County and spotlight Oakland tech companies. Attendees of the kickoff event were welcomed by L. Brooks Patterson and EDCA Director Irene Spanos talked about Tech248 MeetUps, the next step in the Tech248 initiative.

The Tech248 Meet Up concept was developed from suggestions made at the Tech248 focus group meetings. As a part of the next step of the Tech248 initiative, Tech248 Meet Ups will be scheduled within the five Tech248 districts. Meet Ups will begin in January 2015 and continue throughout the year. Dates and locations of the MeetUps will be posted on MItech248.com along with a link for the registration.

As Oakland County continues to develop the Tech248 initiative, the tremendous accomplishments and success they have achieved in molding Oakland County into a global technology hub will continue.
