Flo Doo, a second-year medical student at Oakland
University, is turning heads and eyes with her company FoveOR LLC. Doo has been
busy not only with medical school, but also with designing an innovative google
glass application that will change the medical industry. Through the use of
this new technology, surgeons will be able to keep their eyes on patients
during procedures instead of having to lift their heads and turn to view
screens scattered around the operating room.
Surgeons will be able to pull up important images such as
CAT scans-and even transmit images of the operation in progress for teaching
purposes-all while keeping their eyes on the task at hand. Doo has been
receiving avid support from leading surgeons at Royal Oak-based Beaumont Health
System and is receiving support services from OU Inc. Having first drawn attention last May when
she finished second in a Google Glass Challenge put on by MedTech Boston, Doo
has been gaining significant recognition lately.
Recently, Doo was recognized in Crain’s Detroit Business for
her incredible accomplishments. At the age of 25, Doo is not only attending
medical school and launching her company, she is also giving back. While she is
in the final stages of negotiating the designing and building of a working
prototype while getting funding sources lining up to invest as she needs
capital, she is also providing practical advice and mentoring to would-be
entrepreneurs.
While Google Glass is where Doo is starting, she said it
will be important to be able to use across multiple head-up displays including
Oculus, Epson, and Avegant Corp. It is Doo’s combination of hard-work,
intellect, and creativity that have launched her into such a successful
position.
