OU Inc. opened its doors to students of Professor Kang’s ENT
440 class. Students were taken on a tour of the facility led by Executive
Director Amy Butler. The tour included information about some of Michigan’s
leading innovative companies and brief insight into what has made them
successful.
ENT440 at Oakland University explores the process for
creating new ventures, including ideation, evaluation of business
opportunities, business planning, financial planning, financial analysis, and
assembling business resources. Students of the course focus on integrating all
aspects of a start-up while recognizing the external environment.
As a business incubator, OU Inc. was the perfect place to
provide further insight into these processes. “OU Inc. gave my entrepreneurship
class a peek into the kinds of technological resources and business solutions
that are available to effectively market and sustain an upcoming business” said
Philip Daguanno, a student in Professor Kang’s ENT 440 class “It has inspired
me to look deeper into what is out there so I could one day apply what I took
away from my class trip to OU Inc. towards my own business venture.”
Also covering the concepts of competitive analysis,
competitive positioning, market segmentation, and issues related to launching
new ventures, ENT440 teaches students what it takes to run a successful
start-up. “I believe that OU Inc. is located at the intersection between the
academia and the real world. By visiting OU Inc. my students in ENT440 were
able to learn how their business ideas could be actually implemented in OU Inc.
before they may face the real challenges and difficulties of the real world”
said Professor Kang.
“Visiting the OU Incubator was very informative and
beneficial as it enlightened me of the different resources that OU provides to
entrepreneurs” said OU student Jonathon Tamm.
As OU Inc. continues the mission to educate students,
start-up companies, and professionals in Michigan, enrolling for events at OU
Inc. will continue to show tremendous benefit to attendees. Oakland University
provides one of the highest levels of education in Michigan and as a part of
the School of Engineering and Computer Science OU Inc. is proud to be able to
provide such valuable benefits to OU students.
