Medical Main Street, powered by Oakland County, hosted their
2014 INNO-VENTION conference on October 21-22. Sponsors of the conference
include Oakland University, OU INC, Beaumont Health Systems and Henry Ford
Health Systems. The conference featured a number of events including
networking, guest speakers, breakout session, and Demonstration Alley.
As a result of the success of last year’s Demonstration
Alley, it has been expanded even more. Showcasing innovative products and
technologies from the health care and life science industries in Michigan,
Demonstration Alley places a special focus on showing health care related
products that are new-to-market, visual and award winning.
Featured in the breakout session is Workforce Intelligence
Network Breakout Session: Future Trends in Health Employment. This breakout
session provided an opportunity for health care representatives to tell education and
training partners what they can do to improve the readiness of workers entering
health care occupations. Education and
training partners also had the opportunity to convey information about
curriculum development, training opportunities, and collaborative efforts. This session included an overview of the
Southeast Michigan health care workforce.
The signature ‘Commercialization Competition Event’ was a highlight of the conference with five companies pitching to a group of distinguished investors. Judges were Patricia Glaza who serves as Vice President, Invest Detroit and Managing Director, First Step Fund and Detroit Innovate, Jay Katarincic who is co-founder and Managing Director of Draper Triangle Ventures, and David Weaver, Founder and Chairman of Great Lakes Angles. The five companies pitching were Functional Innovation Enterprise, Blaze Medical, Triple Check, HyGenesis, and FoveOR.
