On Tuesday, December 2, nonprofit organizations around the world come together for #GivingTuesday. Giving Tuesday is a day to take a step back from the materialism of Black Friday and Cyber Monday and reflect on what we can do for others.
Oakland University was founded on philanthropy when Matilda Dodge Wilson donated her estate in 1957 to establish what is now OU. Generous donations continue to move OU forward, supporting scholarships, research, academic programs, spaces for learning, and campus life. A look at an interactive timeline of OU's history demonstrates how giving has driven the University's physical growth. But giving also impacts students in ways you don't necessarily see, like scholarships and once-in-a-lifetime opportunities.
Throughout the day, we will be sharing stories of those impacted by philanthropy, and those who choose to fund their passion at Oakland. Hear their stories and share your own on social media.
