OU BAP students learn to “lead at the crossroads” at annual meeting

Six student officers of OU’s Beta Alpha Psi took part in the BAP annual meeting in Atlanta this summer. In addition to networking and learning activities, the students participated in and the BAP International Day of Literacy where they distributed books at a local elementary school.

“The Beta Alpha Psi regional conference is not only a great learning experience, but also a great way to connect with other accounting professionals nationally. During the conference, my fellow officers and I learned how to work in dynamic teams via community service, and how to make our Beta Alpha Psi chapter stronger,” said Eric Nishon.

Keynote speakers included Richard Caturano, immediate past chairman of the American Institute of CPAs and partner in the Boston office of McGladrey LLP, the fifth largest US accounting firm; and Flip Flippen, founder and president of the Flippen Group, one of the largest educator training companies and fastest-growing leadership development organizations in North America.

“All the separate seminars inside this convention provided our chapter with several useful tips on ways we can improve our chapter and leave a lasting impression,” said Lewis Frances.

“By providing assistance for this and other trips for student organizations, students gain a number of benefits, such as exposure to various speakers, networking opportunities and best practices,” said Jerry Fletcher. “These best practices allow student officers the opportunity to implement new ideas and programs, giving all students more diverse and effective opportunities as they prepare themselves for the beginning of their careers.

“I would like to thank the OU Accounting and Finance Department and all the other donors who, through their generosity, continue to allow Beta Alpha Psi students to attend events such as this one,” Fletcher added.
