Chamber Music Society of Detroit at Oakland University series presents second season

Following a successful debut in 2013, the Chamber Music Society of Detroit at Oakland University series will present its second season, featuring four Sunday concerts from acclaimed music performers.

   
Sunday, Oct. 12 at 3 p.m.
The
 Juilliard String Quartet 
Joining the Juilliard Quartet on this program is the Aeolus String Quartet, the Graduate Resident Quartet at the Juilliard School. The program includes quartets by Haydn and Ran, along with an octet by Mendelssohn. 

Sunday, Nov. 9 at 3 p.m.
Guitarist Celino Romero
 
The youngest member of the renowned Romero quartet (known to millions as “The Royal Family of the Guitar”) will play a selection of favorites for Classical and Flamenco guitar, including a duet with OU Provost, guitarist and composer James Lentini.

   

Sunday, Feb. 8 at 3 p.m.
The Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson Trio
 
Pianist Joseph Kalichstein, violinist Jaime Laredo and cellist Sharon Robinson have set the standard for performance of the piano trio literature. The group will bring its Festival of Beethoven to OU’s campus with a performance of the iconic composer’s complete piano trios.

Sunday, March 15 at 3 p.m. 
Quintet Attacca, with Panayis Lyras
One of Chicago's most dynamic chamber ensembles, the group is dedicated to bringing the unique sound of the wind quintet to all audiences. Award-winning pianist Panayis Lyras entered the Athens Conservatory at age 6, and received his bachelor's and master's degrees from the Juilliard School. 

The Chamber Music Society of Detroit is entering its 71st season and brings to Oakland University a well-established reputation as one of the leading chamber music presenting organizations in the world. This concert series, presented in partnership with OU Music, Theatre and Dance, features artists and ensembles of national and international distinction.

These affordably priced public concerts in Varner Recital Hall offer an exciting opportunity to the community and region, and all are welcome to attend. Tickets for each performance are $30 for the general public and $15 for students. Subscription tickets for all four concerts are available from the Chamber Music Society of Detroit only.
