Green-technology company Golden Products & Services LLC (Golden) was launched in January 2013 at the Macomb-OU INCubator by two Oakland University (OU) alumni. Their prior collaboration with OU’s Center for Robotics and Unmanned Intelligence Systems (CRUIS) through the Oakland Robotics Association was overseen by the OU Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, specifically Dr. Ka C Cheok. This collaboration focused on research for the Klovstad Mechatronics Transmission and revolved into Golden. Golden’s current projects include an intellectual-property protected Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT), based on their proof of concept, set to be launched in September of this year. Golden holds the patent assignment and commercialization agreement with John Klovstad, MIT graduate and inventor. This effort has also been in collaboration with various OU students and professors, including Cheok, Dr. Michael Latcha and Dr. Ching L. Ko. In the ultimate demonstration of an incubator’s collaborative environment, Golden has partnered with fellow startup company Evolver. Their work with all-terrain vehicles (ATV) includes Evolver’s adjustable seat and Golden’s CVT. Golden is continuously diversifying through robotics technology, HVAC systems, environmentally-friendly chemical technology, IT data-transfer systems and specialized safety controls in order to be on the leading edge. Golden was a finalist for a Nine-Sigma Grant in March of 2012 and received a Fast-Trac Certificate of Entrepreneurship in June of 2012. They have received Business Advisory Board services through Mac-OU INC, and participated in Mac-OU INC’s Pitch Prep and MidMichigan Innovation Center’s BOOST!.
