Julie Gustafson, Mac-OU INC’s executive director, participated in ‘OU in DC 2014’ on May 18-21. This excursion to Washington D.C. is sponsored by Oakland University’s Office of Government and Community Relations, with attendance strongly encouraged from staff members with matters that are directly impacted by federal government spending and policies. The trip plans included meetings with members of Congress and staff; Embassy visits; panel briefings on federal matters from association, congressional, agency and governor's office staff; meetings with federal agency program officers and executive office representatives; receptions, luncheons, group dinners, and tours; and Senator Stabenow’s Good Morning Michigan Reception. “The visit was not only informative and educational, it was an excellent opportunity to make relevant connections to support the Macomb-OU INCubator and SmartZone initiatives,” Julie said. “Although I’ve been to D.C. on a number of occasions, this was my first time touring the White House and the Capital. I found the tours to be absolutely fascinating and humbling.” Fun Fact: It is considered good luck to rub your foot on the floor of the middle of the Capital! |
