This year's recipient is Lara Dhayni, a graduate of Rochester High School. She plans to pursue a pre-med focus as an incoming OU freshman with a career goal of becoming a medical doctor. Dhayni is the third recipient of the renewable Huntington Ford scholarship, joining current OU junior Jacqueline Yee – also a Rochester High School graduate – and current OU sophomore Chandler Swink, an Avondale graduate.
Yee has spent this summer in Washington D.C. as an intern in Rep. Sander Levin’s office. She credits the scholarship for the opportunity to accept the internship offered through Oakland’s Department of Political Science.
Pat and Christie Scoggin, owners of Huntington Ford, developed the scholarship program as a way to engage the community and give students a head start toward becoming contributing members of society.
“The Scoggin’s are paying it forward through the Huntington Ford Scholarship Program,” said Luke Fleer, regional development officer for OU. “Oakland University and the Greater Rochester community are grateful for the positive impact Pat and Christie are making on the lives of students.”
Scholarship candidates are evaluated based on financial need, academic performance and extracurricular involvement. The scholarship is renewable for an additional three years for a student who continues to demonstrate financial need, completes full-time credits during each fall and winter semester and maintains a minimum 3.30 GPA.
