Camp for high school students explores biomedical sciences and bioengineering

OUWB and SECS faculty members teamed up to create an instructional, hands-on experience in biomedical sciences and human anatomy for the Bioengineering and Biomedical Sciences Summer Program.

In collaboration with the School of Engineering and Computer Science, the Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine will offer a summer camp for high school students who want to explore their interest in biomedical sciences and bioengineering.

OUWB and SECS faculty members teamed up to create an instructional, hands-on experience in biomedical sciences and human anatomy for the Bioengineering and Biomedical Sciences Summer Program. Students will participate in demonstrations and use technology to discover the multiple systems and processes of the human body. The experience meets the academically focused components of STEMM, Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Medicine.

“We want to give these students an interactive week that will help them understand what it would be like to pursue careers in medicine and the health sciences,” said Caryn Reed-Hendon, Ph.D., director of Diversity & Inclusion, OUWB. “They will have the opportunity to ask questions about form and function, common diseases and illnesses, and widely used diagnoses.”

The camp occurs June 18 – 27 from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
