The Next Star On The International Stage

Oakland University Alumni Jibran Ahmed grew up in the Metro-Detroit area his whole life. A natural born leader, Ahmed held numerous leadership positions at Oakland University including Student Body Vice President. Having obtained his Bachelor of Arts and Science degree majoring in International Relations with a minor in Theater, Ahmed is now pursuing a Masters of International Development degree majoring in Human Security.

Ahmed's role here at OU INC was to research and compile a list of services made available to help international companies establish a presence in Michigan. Placed in charge of compiling research and putting together an application that will be submitted to the NBIA (National Business Incubation Association) seeking OU INC as a soft landing zone for international companies, Ahmed's task held great significance. Being designated as a soft landing zone for international companies would be a tremendous accomplishment for OU INC and for the university.

When Ahmed is not working or leading a student organization he likes to travel, go hiking, lifting at the gym, and enjoys theater. Ahmed recently went hiking at the Great Smokey Mountains and will be travelling to Turkey this summer to teach English. Having minored in Theater, Ahmed would like to see himself acting on stage, in movies or television in the future.

Ahmed said of his experience working at OU INC “After working here you really get a glimpse of the amount of work and dedication it takes to make an organization or business successful from the ground up.” His words of advice for students and everyone else would be “Make sure to always put yourself out there. If you stay quiet and do nothing no one will know who you are. After all, the squeaky wheel gets the grease. Keep in mind that whatever you are doing today should turn you in to person you want to be tomorrow.”

Eventually Ahmed would like to become a Foreign Services Officer for the US Department of State. Further down the road, Ahmed would like to come back to Detroit to open up his own business or even start his own business incubator. Wherever his career path takes him, it is clear that Jibran Ahmed is destined to make a major impact on the international stage.
