Oakland University attracts some of the most intriguing and inspired students to its campus every year. While attending OU, Jarett Burch worked at OU INC. Having been involved in several different aspects of campus life, Burch says that his internship at OU INC was of the highest value to him and was a significant factor in getting his current job.
Growing up, Burch lived all over the country including Maryland, Virginia, and Michigan. In his free time, Burch likes to ride sport bikes and considers himself a gearhead. Having lived on a horse farm previously, his internship here at OU INC brought back some fond memories. While attending OU, Burch joined the Technology and Leadership Keys Student Organization.
Burch currently works for Pulte Homes as a Field Manager. Burch found his way to Pulte Homes from his networking experiences while here at OU INC. Burch is responsible for everything from supervision over EPA and OSHA compliances to even handing over the keys to the new home owners. Each part of the 9 month building process is overseen by Burch.
Burch’s advice for future students is to get involved. Whether it is class projects or student organizations, getting involved helps you connect with professionals once you step into the job market. The value of networking in today’s job market and the experience you get from student organizations, projects, and internships is an advantage you can take with you. Burch had several internships while attending OU but says that the one that benefited him the most was his internship at OU INC because of all the skills he learned. The most important lesson he learned: networking is key in today’s job market.
