The band won first place in the 1st Section, showing they can compete with the nation’s best according to 4barsrest.com, an internationally-known site that covers competitive brass banding. “In a contest that revealed the increasing strength in depth of North American banding, it proved enough to beat off the high class challenges of five time champion Central Ohio, with former top section winners Illinois in third,” reads the review on 4barsrest.com. Dr. Kenneth Kroesche, the director of OU’s traditional British brass band, says that this win is what they've been working for since the band's 2010 inception. As a result of this prestigious victory, the band has received an invitation to compete at the 2015 Butlins Mineworker's Open Brass Band Festival in Skegness, England. In addition to the Brass Band competition at NABBA, OU also won awards in the solo and ensemble competitions. Emily Maas came in third in the Slow Melody High Brass Solo Competition for the second year in a row and the Krescendo Trombone Quartet came in third in the Brass Ensemble Competition. |
