Faculty, staff and graduate students from American and Canadian universities will participate in the Eighth Annual International Conference on Teaching and Learning on May 14-15 on Oakland University’s campus. Co-hosted by OU and the University of Windsor, this year’s event will explore the theme of “Empowering Students to Learn.” Participatory sessions will address three fundamental questions:
Keynote speaker John Tagg, Ph.D, will expand on his book “The Learning Paradigm College,” which addresses how universities can shift from a model of instruction to a focus on successful student learning. Stephen Carroll, Ph.D., will provide practical strategies to help empower students in their own learning process.
More than 60 presentations will be offered over the two-day conference, including 75-minute interactive workshops, 35-minute presentations and poster sessions including: “Game-Based Learning and Student Retention,” “Story It! Enabling Learning Transfer to Practice” and “What is the Research Evidence about Learning: Can we Apply it?”
The conference is open to all university faculty, staff and graduate students. The Office of the Provost and the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning will cover the registration costs for OU faculty, staff and graduate students. For all others, registration is $200.
