Applications are open for journalism scholarships

The journalism program is now accepting applications for two scholarships that provide financial awards to deserving student journalists.

The 2014-2015 Oakland Press Endowed Scholarship for Journalism Excellence is granted to full-time undergraduate student, junior or senior, with a minimum 3.0 GPA, who is an outstanding citizen and a leader. 

The Bunting and Briggs Freedom of the Press Scholarship is awarded to a full-time undergraduate student who is a journalism major with plans to work as a reporter upon graduation. Student must be currently employed at least 20 hrs/week at a professional news organization or at The Oakland Post. Student must have a minimum 3.0 GPA.

The deadline is Friday, April 4, 2014.

Students can apply for two scholarships that reward excellence in specific aspects of journalism.
