Featured speakers all have local and regional ties, and some have OU connections. Brandon Bernier is the DoIT director of User Services at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and formerly served as director of OU’s Student Technology Center. Barbara Oakley, Ph.D., is a professor of engineering at OU and Terri Orbuch, Ph.D., teaches sociology at OU. Dr. Orbuch’s research on couples and relationships has earned her the nickname “The Love Doctor.” Other featured speakers are Rod Rock, Ph.D., superintendent of Clarkston Community Schools, and Jenenne Whitfield, director of the Heidelberg Project, an arts-inspired housing initiative in Detroit.
Also speaking at the event are Amy Butler, director of OU INC; Graeme Harper, dean of OU’s Honors College; Richard Stamps, emeritus professor of Anthropology at OU; Eldridge Alexander, TechStop engineer at Google; and Charlie Wollborg, chief troublemaker at Curve Detroit and curator at TEDxDetroit.
Launched in 1984, TED stands for Technology, Entertainment and Design and has hosted conferences with leading experts around the world. TEDx events are independently organized to promote intellectual exchange on a community level.
