In the midst of an ever-changing political landscape, Oakland University students, faculty and staff have a unique opportunity to learn about the inner workings of state government at the 17th annual OU Day at the Capitol.
This free event will take place from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Tuesday, March 11 and will offer an array of activities. Participants will:
Additionally, participants will have an opportunity to tour the state capitol, Michigan Supreme Court Learning Center and Michigan Historical Center.
Over the years, many students have taken part in OU Day at the Capitol, including Brandon Hanna, OU’s student body president, who described the experience as “eye-opening.”
“It allowed us to meet with local and state representatives to advocate for more funding for higher education, as well as help build long-lasting relationships with various state representatives in Lansing,” Hanna said. “It also gave me personally a better understanding of the hurdles of funding Michigan public universities, and what we could do as student advocates to help make a positive change.”
In preparation for the event, OU Student Congress will conduct advocacy training from noon – 1 p.m. on Monday, March 10 in Oakland Center Gold Room C.
OU Day at the Capitol is sponsored by the Oakland University Student Congress, the Office of Government and Community Relations and the Oakland University Alumni Association.
