With
legislative sessions underway in most states, higher education issues
will be among the priorities on lawmakers’ policy agendas. Strong focus
will be given to harnessing higher education to meet state economic
goals, crafting negotiated agreements that link state funding to tuition
freezes or modest tuition increases, and strategically allocating state
operating support to align with state objectives.
These are among the top 10
higher education state policy issues most likely to affect public higher
education across the 50 states in 2014. Compiled by the AASCU State
Relations and Policy staff, this 8th
annual Top 10 issues briefing is informed by an environmental scan of
the economic, political and policy landscape surrounding public higher
education, as well as a review of recent state policy activities and
trends.
