The Honors College, which is one of the oldest in nation, and founded at a university which was itself the first in the nation to be formed form input of Honors College students in the creation of its curriculum, continues to go from strength to the strength.
Not only did Fall '13 see the largest ever freshmen enrollment in The Honors College, but also one of the highest average entry GPAs ever also.
The university's Presidential Scholars program was formally located in The Honors College from July 2013, and we aim to provide all Honors College students, including our Presidential Scholars, opportunities to be world-class at what they do.
We work with students at all levels of entry to help them join, and benefit from interaction with The Honors College; but we're also thrilled when our students achieve levels of performance substantially above the national average. We aim to support and assist that, and to encourage students to recognize their overall potential - of which GPA is only one part. We make it our business to look at graduate and employment
This year we move into new accommodation for The Honors College, with a magnificent new residence housing The Honors College opening in August 2014. That building contains 1000s of square feet of social and social learning space, along with teaching and meeting rooms, and world-class student accommodation for all students, whether freshmen. sophomores, juniors or seniors. There are Honors College teaching rooms and an Administration area providing key access and administrative support.
A range of 24/7 seating and WIFI areas, meeting rooms and lounges throughout the building provide both opportunities to meet with friends and peers and key learning opportunities. The Honors College own main teaching room opens to a wider area of spaces for personal and group exploration, along with some great cafe and gathering spaces that are only as limited as your imagination!
"We're building the future," said Dr Graeme Harper, Dean of The Honors College. "I know that if we can provide space and direct access to everything The Honors College has to offer we can support students to succeed at everything they do. That's our aim."
Winter '14 looks set to be another great semester.
