Business alum honored with industry leadership award

The International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) recognized Edward Eickhoff, ECON ’85, vice president of development/ redevelopment for Ramco-Gershenson, with its 2013 William M. Sulzbacher Government Relations Leadership Award.

The award, which honors an individual with great capacity for compassion, integrity and service, recognizes Eickhoff’s commitment to making volunteerism a priority throughout his career.

“Edward Eickhoff exemplifies what it means to be a volunteer,” says Cynthia Kratchman, principal, Mid-America Real Estate Corp and former Michigan State Director and Recipient of the Trustees Distinguished Service Award. “Ed has taken the role of Government Relations chair and clarified the mission, underscored the urgency of the issues, enlisted an excellent committee and delivered the ICSC message with the utmost in professionalism. He absolutely defines and redefines what it is to be a first class volunteer and representative of ICSC – in all realms and particularly so in the Government Relations arena.”

In addition to his work with the ICSC, Eickhoff lends his expertise in many other ways. He was recently re-appointed as the Michigan Government Relations Chair and has been a member of the State Committee for Michigan since 1990, serving as State Director in 1996-1997 and 2004-2006. Eickhoff has demonstrated leadership time and again, notes the ICSC press release, building a committee, managing disparate views and building consensus among his colleagues on challenging local, state and federal issues. He has been a valued contributor to the ICSC’s Economic Policy Subcommittee since 2009. He is also a member of the ICSC PAC and Treasurer of the Michigan Commercial Real Estate PAC as well as a member of the Urban Land Institute.

At Oakland University, Eickhoff serves as Chairman of the School of Business Administration’s Economic Board of Advisors and as a member of the university’s Advisory Fund Board.

“This is a well-deserved recognition for Ed. He is a tireless champion of his causes,” says Anandi Sahu, chair, Department of Economics at Oakland University. “We also appreciate the support he lends to the School of Business Administration at OU. Most recently, thanks to the relationship he has cultivated with government institutions and officeholders, OU  had the privilege of hosting former Michigan Treasurer Andy Dillon as the speaker for this the 2013 Fall Economics Lecture Series."
