School of Nursing Commencement Award Recipients Announced  

 Rochester, MI –  The SON’s Commencement and Honors Committee have announced this year’s recipients of the four awards that recognize students’ demonstration of scholarship, leadership, commitment and character. The winners receive a framed certificate, the names of the recipients are added to plaques which are hung in the academic advising suite and their names appear in the Commencement program book.  It is also a distinction of honor that they can add to their resume and aplications for graduate school admission. The recipients for this year’s awards are as follows:

• Ekaterina V. Groce (BSN) – the Board of Visitors Excellence in Nursing Award which is presented to the student who has shown a strong academic and clinical performance, especially in the area of professional quality patient care.
• Joshua J. Tokoph (BSN) -- the Elsevier Health Sciences Book Award which is given to the student who demonstrates sensitivity to human needs, compassionate behavior, support to other classmates and a humanistic set of values.
• Christopher J. McFarlane (BSN) -- the Exceptional Achievement Award which is presented to the student who demonstrates outstanding academic and professional performance.
• Holly Marie Helzer (BSN) -- the Leadership Award which is given to the student who demonstrates the ability to organize and implement group projects related to the health needs of the local community, demonstrates interest in professional growth and / or supports the SON through committee involvement or class projects outside of lecture and clinical.

             Oakland University offers a variety of degree programs including the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), Accelerated Second Degree BSN, BSN Degree Completion Sequence for Registered Nurses, Master of Science in      Nursing (MSN) with Adult / Gerontological Nurse Practitioner, Nurse Anesthesia and Family Nurse Practitioner tracks and the Doctor of Nursing Practice.
