Oakland soccer player, business student named finalist for senior CLASS award; fan voting open through Nov. 25

Oakland men's soccer player and business student Nick Kristock has been named one of 10 finalists for the 2013 Senior CLASS Award in collegiate soccer.

The Senior CLASS Award, chosen by a nationwide vote of NCAA® Division I head coaches, national media and fans, is given annually to the most outstanding senior student-athlete in 10 Division I sports. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence - community, classroom, character and competition.

Fans are encouraged to vote on the Senior CLASS Award website through November 25. Fans can vote once per day. Fan votes will be combined with media and Division I head coaches' votes to determine the winner. The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2013 NCAA Men's College Cup championship in December.

Kristock, a defender from Novi, Mich., is a student in Oakland University’s MBA program, and has an undergraduate degree in Human Resources Management from OU’s School of Business Administration.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

As an undergraduate, Kristock became the first-ever student-athlete to be awarded OU’s Human Relations Award, given to the student that has made an outstanding contribution to intergroup understanding and conflict resolution of the university, and was also named the Oakland University Student Leader of the Year in April 2013.

He is also the founder of Gigs For Good and Mission 50K, a non-profit organization that funds Christian missionaries around the globe and a service-based movement that is seeking to accrue 50,000 service/volunteer hours in a six-month span. This season he has started all 12 matches for OU and has led a defense to a 0.98 goals-against average so far this season. He also helped the Oakland defense record three consecutive shutouts during the year and had a streak of 402:42 without allowing a goal.
