Rochester Chamber honors OU accounting professor with Sunrise Pinnacle Award

The Rochester Regional Chamber of Commerce bestowed Oakland University Accounting Professor Gadis “Buck” Dillon with its Educator of the Year Award at its 2013 Sunrise Pinnacle Award dinner in October. The Rochester Chamber presents this award annually to an educator in the greater Rochester area who has developed innovating programming showing measureable results in raising student subject enthusiasm and achievement.

In late September Professor Dillon received the 2013 Accounting Teaching Excellence Award from the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants (MACPA), which recognizes educators who excel in teaching accounting and promoting the profession.

The Oakland Press covered the event. Following is an excerpt:
Oakland University Interim President Betty Youngblood presented the Oakland University Educator of the Year award to accounting professor Gadis “Buck” Dillon, PhD. The award is given to an educator who has developed innovative programming showing measureable results in raising student subject enthusiasm and achievement.

Dillon thanked his colleagues and his students for the recognition, which caught him by surprise.
“I really hadn't anticipated it,” he said, “and I have to give credit to my colleagues at Oakland University who have given me this opportunity and especially to my students because they have worked awfully hard and I guess I'm reaping the rewards.”

Modesty aside, Dillon said he was glad that his work to develop professional maturity in his students is getting some attention.

“It means I've made a contribution to a difference,” he said. “It means I've been able to impact my community and my university and I'm being recognized for that impact and I'm grateful.”
