Oakland University’s School of Business Administration is pleased to welcome nine new faculty members this year.
“The faculty at OU’s business school is top-notch. I believe a strong, active faculty is the backbone of a business school,” says Michael A. Mazzeo, dean, School of Business Administration at OU. “Our faculty class of 2013-14 continues the tradition of excellence enriching OU’s academic environment through diversity and expertise.”
Gerald DeHondt II, Ph.D., Visiting Assistant Professor, Management Information Systems
During his professional career, Gerald DeHondt worked for Compuware Corporation providing consulting services to Fortune 500 companies. He taught courses at both the graduate and undergraduate levels in many topics including information systems policy and strategy, network architecture, and web development. He has several journal publications and his research has appeared at national conferences. DeHondt received his B.S. from Oakland University, his MBA from Wayne State University and in 2009, his Ph.D. from Kent State University. He also serves as the Senior Editor for the Information Systems Journal.
Ali Hammoud, Visiting Instructor, Finance
Ali Hammoud holds a Master of Arts in economics from the University of Mississippi,. Hammoud also has an MBA from Henderson State University and a bachelor’s degree in business administration in accounting and finance from Lebanese University. Over the past few years, he has taught as a special lecturer in finance. His teaching interests include corporate finance, financial management, investment, and principles of global macroeconomics. Hammoud is also a business and financial consultant for small businesses
Jae Hyeung Kang, Ph.D., Assistant Professor, Entrepreneurship
Jae Kang received his Ph.D. in entrepreneurship and organizational behavior from George Washington University. He also earned an MBA at the University of Maryland after three years of consulting experience with Accenture’s Korean Organization. During his time as a change management consultant at Accenture he worked on the generation of implementation of process innovation projects in a variety of companies and industries across South Korea. During his Ph.D. program, he published an article in a top-tier journal (Organization Science) and presented several research papers at conferences of internationally recognized associations, such as the Academy of Management, the United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship and the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology.
Daniel Lake, Visiting Assistant Professor, Marketing
Dan Lake is completing his Ph.D. at Michigan State University this fall. He has taught periodically at OU’s business school for the past seven years primarily in marketing and operations management. Lake has a master's degree from Northwestern University and an undergraduate degree from MSU. Lake’s professional experience includes working full-time at McCann-Erickson Advertising, U.S. Steel Corporation and Ford Motor Company primarily in marketing/sales and supply chain management.
Yazan Roumani, Assistant Professor, Quantitative Methods in Management
Yazan Roumani teaches business statistics and management science. He received his MBA from the Eberly College of Business and Information Technology at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He received his master’s degree in biostatistics from the Graduate School of Public Health at the University of Pittsburgh. In 2013, he received his Ph.D. in operations management from the Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business at the University of Pittsburgh. Roumani’s main research interest is in the application of operations management in health care. He spent several years working as a statistician for the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and is a co-author on several journal publications in the medical field. He recently published a paper in the Journal of Healthcare Management Science.
Diana Smrt, Ph.D., Visiting Special Instructor, Management
Diana Smrt earned her Ph.D. from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. Her areas of study include organizational studies and finance. Since 2005, she has been teaching topics such as principles of management, human resources, organizational behavior, strategy and more. Smrt’s research interests include motivation in groups, social loafing and group dynamics. Smrt has published in the following journals: Group Dynamics: Theory, Research and Practice as well as the Journal of Management Education.
Steven Stanton, Ph.D., Assistant Professor, Marketing
Steven Stanton received his BA, MA, and Ph.D. from the University of Michigan -- Ann Arbor. Prior to joining Oakland University, Stanton worked at Duke University as a research scientist. While at Duke, he also maintained interdisciplinary research and teaching appointments in the Fuqua School of Business, Center for Interdisciplinary Decision Science and the Department of Psychology. His research focuses on the psychological and physiological factors that influence consumer behavior, decision making and social behavior. Stanton has authored more than 20 academic journal articles and book chapters and he has also presented his research at numerous domestic and international conferences. Stanton’s research has been featured in television, radio and print outlets including the New York Times, National Public Radio, CNN, Newsweek and Scientific American
Sha Zhao, Ph.D., Assistant Professor, Accounting
Sha Zhao received her BA and Ph.D. in Accounting from Southwestern University of Finance and Economics, China. She also earned a M.Phil and Ph.D. in Accounting from Baruch College, The City University of New York. Her research and teaching interests include Financial Accounting, Managerial Accounting, Auditing, Corporate Disclosure, Corporate Governance and Mergers and Acquisitions, to mention a few. She has published in well-renown journals and has two working papers.
