Plan ahead for fall 2013 parking, traffic changes at OU
As the fall 2013 semester approaches, Oakland University’s seven campus construction projects are in full swing. Along with new books and Grizzly gear, everyone in the campus community should include commuting and parking plans in their back to school preparations.
Get ready for a busy return to classes by checking out the following links:
View the most recent campus parking map to familiarize yourself with parking lot designations and Bear Bus routes.
View the campus map to get information about campus buildings and other destinations.
Review the campus parking website at oakland.edu/parking for the most up to date information on parking, as well as enforcement of parking and driving regulations. The OUPD will enforce traffic and parking regulations, including issuing citations for handicapped and non-designated parking violations and illegal U-turns.
Review the Bear Bus website at oakland.edu/bearbus for route and schedule updates.

Additional help will be on hand during the beginning of the semester:
University staff and students will assist campus community members with parking and traffic questions in six strategically located information tents during the first week of the fall 2013 term.
Oakland University Police Department and Facilities Management personnel will help facilitate traffic flow and parking during the first week of the new academic year.
New this year:
Lighted temporary parking lots have been created on the:
West side of the Upper Fields adjacent to P-11
South of P-41 near the Police and Support Services building
West of P-37 near the corner of Pioneer Drive and Squirrel Road.
Overnight parking will be reserved in:
P-5, P-11 (including the temporary Upper Fields expansion) and P-16 lots
Ann V. Nicholson Student Apartments
Matthews Court lots
All covered spaces of the P-29 parking structure.
Two new buses have been added to the Bear Bus system, resulting in a total of six vehicles. New routes designed to maximize the efficiency and convenience of temporary parking are shown on the map below.
As always, the university encourages everyone to leave early to get to class or work on time, to carpool when possible, to walk or bicycle rather than drive when moving around on campus, and to avoid combing high-demand parking lots for open spaces.
With heightened awareness, planning and cooperation on the part of all faculty, staff and students, this year’s parking and traffic challenges can be efficiently handled. As with any family, growing pains are a necessary part of improvement and the campus community can look forward to new facilities that -- once complete -- will make Oakland a great place to live, work, and learn.
