AAMC/grr Update

To: GRRS

This is a reminder that the AAMC is participating in a “Rally for Medical Research Hill Day” on Wednesday, September 18. The day, which is being organized by the American Association for Cancer Research, will bring participants from a broad coalition of medical research advocacy groups together to meet in teams with members of the House and Senate to urge Congress to make funding for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) a national priority.

AAMC member institutions are encouraged to add their names to the list of more than 100 organizations and institutions supporting this effort (list is attached). Please contact me at dbmoore@aamc.org if your institution wishes to be listed as a supporter. Thank you to those institutions that have already indicated their support.

In addition, institutions are asked to consider sending faculty or students to Washington to participate in the “Hill Day.”  Participants will meet with House and Senate offices as teams. Attached is a “Hill Day” registration form that includes the information needed to schedule meetings on Capitol Hill.  Once you complete the form with the requested information about your respective “Hill Day” participants, please email it to Hayzell Gollopp at hgollopp@aamc.org by Friday, August 9

A Congressional reception will take place on Tuesday, September 17, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Dirksen Senate Office Building, Room 106.

The “Hill Day” will begin on Wednesday, September 18, with an orientation session from 8:00 to 9:30 a.m. at the Reserve Officers Association building, located at One Constitution Avenue, NE, (directly adjacent to the U.S. Capitol at the corner of Constitution Avenue, NE, and First Street).  Meetings with House and Senate offices will be scheduled from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Please contact me if you have questions or desire additional information about this event.
