AAMC/grr Update

To: GRRs

As we near the official July launch of the new Research Means Hope Tumblr page (http://medresearch.tumblr.com/), we’d like to have as many institutions submitting content as possible.  This will be a great tool to communicate positive news about research advances happening at medical schools and teaching hospitals as we continue to educate lawmakers and the public about the negative impact of the sequester.

Thank you to the institutions that already have contributed. We have received and are processing over 100 submissions from 22 institutions including:

As mentioned in an earlier email to your deans (see below), we are looking for stories about major research breakthroughs and discoveries, particularly those supported by NIH funding.  These can be submitted in many formats, including brief videos or narratives about major research innovations, stories that illustrate the continuum of research (“from bench to bedside”), success stories from patients and scientists, and stories about clinical trials.  While we’re trying to get as many institutions as possible on this page in time for the official launch, we encourage you to continue submitting new breakthroughs and stories when they happen.  This is a long-term repository of the incredible research being conducted at AAMC-member institutions.

How do institutions submit content?

1.      Visit http://medresearch.tumblr.com/ and click the “Share Your Story” tab at the upper right-hand side of the page. You will be automatically directed to the submission page.

2.      Click on the drop-down menu (under the introductory paragraph) to indicate what type of content you are posting (text, photo, video, link, etc).

3.      Insert your content into the text box.

4.      Check the boxes for the “tags” you'd like to see your content filed under.

5.      Click to accept the terms of submission.

6.      Press submit!

We will post your submission as soon as possible.  To ensure maximum representation among AAMC members, we will ensure that each institution submitting content by July 5, 2013, will have at least one posting included for the public launch later in the month.  Your institution’s remaining submissions will be added over a short period of time so that the page continues to be refreshed while we promote it.

Again, thank you for your help with this important project.

If you have any questions or experience technical difficulties, please contact Sadea Ramsay (sramsay@aamc.org).
