Students dance, cook, and compete at Greek Week 2013

Oakland University's Greek organizations teamed up last week to compete in an annual competition. A total of 14 fraternities and sororities battled in a dance-off, cook-off and Greek Olympics to earn points for their team.

The Greek Week winners were announced and awards were presented at the Student Activities and Leadership Awards ceremony this Monday. 

First place was awarded to the fraternity and sororities of Gamma Phi Beta, Sigma Alpha Epsilon and Sigma Gamma Rho with a total of 249 points. Alpha Sigma Tau, Tau Kappa Epsilon, Alpha Sigma Phi and Delta Sigma Theta scored second place with a combined 228 points.

Alpha Delta Pi, Theta Chi and Zeta Phi Beta earned 202 points to receive third place, and the fourth place winners were Phi Sigma Sigma, Sigma Pi, Alpha Kappa Alpha and Zeta Sigma Chi with a total score of 176 points.

Gamma Phi Beta, Sigma Alpha Epsilon and Sigma Gamma Rho took the crown in the dance off with their performance to a mix of “Eye of the Tiger,” “Survivor” by Destiny’s Child and “Suit and Tie” by Justin Timberlake and Jay-Z. The trio also won the cook-off event.

“The choreography for the dance-off was a collaboration of all of the sisters and the SAE men's ideas,” said Gamma Phi Beta member Anna Petovello. “Our main goal was to perform a solid routine that the judges would appreciate and have fun watching. Everyone in the Greek community did an awesome job and should be proud they all got up there and worked it.”

The Center for Student Activities also recognized outstanding organizations, faculty, individuals and events at the ceremony. A complete list of awards and recipients can be found on GrizzOrgs.
