The results are in for the 2013 Oakland University Student Congress elections. Brandon Hanna and Jibran Ahmed won the office with a total of 1,083 student votes.
“We have a ton of great initiatives and we can’t wait to implement them and work for the students and with the students,” Hanna said in his first speech as president.
Hanna is a senior and the student activities funding board chair majoring in biology. Ahmed is a junior and a student congress legislator majoring in international relations with a minor in theater.
“We’re here to serve the students by putting on events, encouraging students to voice their opinions, addressing student concerns, and by promoting grizzly pride to make the best possible Oakland experience for students attending OU,” said Hanna.
Hanna and Ahmed's campaign featured a platform based on student concerns, such as tuition rates, parking and better Wi-Fi reception. These things, in addition to working toward technological advances in programs such as Moodle, installing more outlets in areas such as the Pioneer food court and bringing back free scantrons, are initiatives that uphold their motto “Making your Oakland experience better.”
Student congress also announced the 23 new legislators for the 2013-2014 year. The new legislators are Samantha Wolf, Robbie Williford, Ethan Scott, Bria Ellis, Blake Williams, Lauren Tibbits, Darias Thompson, Alexandra Garza, Derek MacDonald, Gina Patrico, Ashley Monticciolo, Marlee Hanna, Rachel Boye, Katrina Stencel, Joshua Nuss, Jonathon Ngoyi, Ariana Davidson, Nusrat Zaman, Kyler Johnson, Arban Stafa, Jack Wallace, Dana Mosa-Basha and Madison Kubinski.
