OU offers career exploration, college readiness camps in Macomb


Oakland University invites high school students to explore careers and prepare for college in interactive three- four- and five-day summer camps in Macomb County, June through August 2013. 

Campers will explore various careers through interactive, engaging sessions that include hands-on activities, field trips and presentations.

The camps offer students:
  • a comprehensive look at current and emerging fields
  • highlights of the knowledge and skills required for jobs in each field
  • information concerning projected employment
  • steps to take now, while in high school, to begin preparing for their future.
This summer’s camps include: 

Career Exploration Camp. June 24-28, or July 22-26: Students explore careers in engineering, computer science, criminal justice, social work, business, medical fields, psychology, education and more.

Business Beyond the Basics, July 15-18: Students get hands-on experience to learn what it takes to launch and run their own enterprise. 

Nursing and Health Sciences Camp, July 29-31: Students are focused on nursing – including specialties such as medical/surgical, intensive care, pediatric and neonatal intensive care, and obstetrics -- medical laboratory sciences, nuclear medicine and radiologic technology -- including specialty fields of histotechnology and cytotechnology -- exercise science, nutrition, wellness promotion and more. 

Engineering and Computer Science Camp, August 5-9: Students explore the in-demand careers in the fields of industrial, systems, mechanical, computer and electrical engineering, and computer science, and the emerging fields of biomedical and alternative energy. 

College Readiness Boot Camp, August 12-14: Students participate in interactive sessions to explore various careers and college majors, understand the differences between the higher education options available, and identify tools they can use to discover their dream college. 

Camp costs vary, but all include transportation for scheduled field trips, lunch, snacks and T-shirt. All camps will be held at Oakland University’s Anton/Frankel Center, 20 South Main Street, Mount Clemens. For more information visit oakland.edu/macombcamp or call toll free (855) 222-6909.
