Along with the Grizz, Oakland University students made a splash in Lansing today, when they descended upon the state capitol. During the 16th annual OU Day at the Capitol, students, faculty and staff had the unique opportunity to learn about the inner workings of state government and meet with representatives.
Most importantly, students were able to voice their concerns and to connect directly with political insiders, according to Samantha Wolf, president of the Oakland University Student Congress.
"This event is extremely important because it allows students to have their voice heard at a higher level," Wolf said.
Participants met with Secretary of State Ruth Johnson, Executive Director of the State Universities of Michigan President's Council Mike Boulus, and with a number of successful OU alumni who work in politics and government.
Additionally, students attended committee meetings, observed the State Senate and House in session, and toured the historic capitol building, Michigan Supreme Court Learning Center and Michigan Historical Center.
