S.O.P.E. to inspire, educate at Green Living Conference on March 4

By Carin Inglis, media relations intern

On Monday, March 4, the Oakland University student organization Sustaining Our Planet Earth (S.O.P.E.) will host a Green Living Conference to educate students about healthy eating and highlight current environmental issues.

The event will run from 1:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Gold Rooms of the Oakland Center. Admission is free to all students, faculty and staff. Those interested in attending can register online.

"The Green Living Conference is a great opportunity to learn about how people can get involved to better the environment," said Alex Hysick, an Oakland University student.

S.O.P.E. is a student-led initiative that strives to promote environmental awareness and sustainable projects on Oakland’s campus. Their main goal is to “green” Oakland’s campus. Part of S.O.P.E.’s mission is to involve and empower OU community members by giving them the tools they need to achieve sustainability in their lives and on campus.

The event will feature eight lectures and activities with a variety of guest speakers and topics. There will be five 30-minute lecture sessions beginning at 1:30 p.m. and ending at 4:40 p.m. Topics include veganism, local green initiatives and protecting the Clinton Watershed. During the last two hours of the conference, attendees will be able to participate in yoga, “arts and scraps,” and a recycling game. The full schedule is available on the registration page.
