Chrysler offers giveaways, sponsors March 2 men's basketball game

One of Oakland University’s strongest corporate partners is engaging the Golden Grizzly community in new ways. Chrysler Corporation will sponsor a special event at the OU men’s basketball game against fellow Summit League contender Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne on Saturday, March 2. Along with high-energy court action, the event will feature company-sponsored give-a-ways and vehicle displays. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.

With its generous support of Oakland Athletics, the world-class carmaker headquartered in Auburn Hills is building on a partnership that has provided a rich source of collaborative research, scholarship and job opportunities.

As one of the region’s top employers, Chrysler has recruited OU students and graduates for full-time and internship opportunities in engineering, information technology, business, marketing, communication, human resources and other fields.

But the company’s involvement goes beyond traditional campus recruiting. In January 2011, Chrysler teamed with Oakland’s Department of Engineering and Computer Science to create the Chrysler Learning and Innovation Center for Sheet Metal Forming (FORM), an international center for sheet metal forming education, intellectual property creation and applied research. Established through a $110,000 grant from Chrysler, the facility hosts engineering workshops and coordinates internship opportunities with the goal of producing work-ready graduates.

Over the years, Chrysler has worked with OU Career Services to sponsor networking and professional development activities, including the Etiquette Dinner, Student to Professional Conference and Coffee with Chrysler. Company leaders have served as keynote speakers for various events and also interacted with OU student organizations such as the Society of Automotive Engineers, American Marketing Association, Graduate Business Leaders and Technology and Leadership Keys.

Chrysler executive and OU alumnus Jason Ryska, SECS ’95 and ’97, leads the company’s recruiting efforts at OU and received the 2011 OU Alumni Spirit Award for exemplary service to the university.
