Looking to escape the winter blues? Plan a once in a lifetime study abroad trip to Brazil, Italy or Australia for the summer. There is still time to apply for a wide variety of international programs located across six continents worldwide.
Oakland University students are keeping pace with a growing national trend to experience the international. Last year, 70 OU students studied in 12 countries over the summer semester, the largest number in university history.
“Summer study-abroad programs are shorter than full-semester programs, and so they are often more convenient and economical: students can frequently get the time off work and take courses toward their degree without missing important courses offered during fall or winter in programs for less than half the cost of the longer semester programs,” said Brian Connery, director of the Office of International Education.
Additionally, OIE offers summer language-immersion programs in Spanish, French, German, Japanese, Arabic, Chinese and Portuguese. There are programs for business students in China, Belgium, and Costa Rica; programs for health sciences majors in Japan, Argentina, Brazil and the Dominican Republic; literature programs in Ireland and England; performing arts in Greece and Australia; studio art studies in Italy; ecology programs in Belgium, Botswana and Costa Rica; music studies in Austria and France; and archeology in Israel and Italy.
Most study abroad programs are at the 200-300 level, designed for second and third year students. Students often begin to plan and save for their study abroad trips a year prior to departure, however scholarships are available. Follow the link to learn more about study abroad scholarships.
A number of study abroad information meetings are scheduled for the next few months. The deadline to apply for most programs is Friday, March 1.
