OU alum wins prize for vision research

OU alum Tonia Rex was recently awarded a prize in the National Eye Institute Audacious Goals Challenge, a national competition to advance vision research. She will receive a $3000 prize and travel expenses to attend the Audacious Goals Development Meeting in Potomac, Maryland later this month. Rex is currently an Assistant Professor with the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. As an undergraduate, Rex performed research with Prof. Barry Winkler in the Eye Research Institute. Their paper The Redox Couple Between Glutathione and Ascorbic Acid: A Chemical and Physiological Perspective (Free Radical Biology and Medicine, Volume 17, Pages 333-349, 1994) has been cited over 300 times in the scientific literature.
