Loan Dang publishes in International Immunopharmacology

Oakland University researcher Loan Dang is a coauthor on a recent paper appearing in the December 2012 issue of the journal International Immunopharmacology (Effects of Intravenous Immunoglobulin on Alpha Synuclein Aggregation and Neurotoxicity, Volume 14, Pages 550-557). Dang is Laboratory Manager of the Ocular Structure & Imaging (OS&I) Facility operated by the Eye Research Institute. The mission of the OS&I is “to maximally benefit the OU biomedical research community by providing service to members who require ultrastructural analyses in support of funded projects or demonstrably fundable new research initiatives. ” The facilities include a scanning electron microscope, a transmission electron microscope, a fluorescence microscope, and other equipment. The OS&I is supervised by CBR member Andrew Goldberg.

According to the ERI website
“Loan received a B.S. degree in chemistry from the University of Saigon in Vietnam in 1970 and biology at Townson State University in Maryland. To broaden her scientific knowledge, she attended Wayne State University and Michigan State University with interest in biomedical electron and confocal microscopy. Loan held a position of research assistant for 10 years in the Physiology Department at the Kresge Eye Institute at Wayne State University. She has been an assistant researcher and manager of the ERI Electron Microscopy Core facility for the past 15 years… Loan assists investigators in the Eye Research Institute to utilize Transmission and Scanning Electron Microscopy for their research. Current interests include the effects of oxidative stress on lens viability and the various metabolic factors that can influence retinal physiology and degeneration.”
