Jan. 3-4 Welcome Week events ring in the winter 2013 semester

The Oakland University community will ring in the winter 2013 semester with another fun-filled edition of Welcome Week.

Festivities begin on Thursday, Jan. 3 with a Welcome Back and Homecoming Kickoff event from noon to 1 p.m. in the Pioneer Food Court, featuring free root beer floats, special guest servers and music provided by OU's campus radio station 88.3 WXOU.

Later that day, the men's basketball team will play host to the University of Nebraska-Omaha, from 7-9 p.m. in the O'rena. A candlelight vigil remembering the victims in Newtown, Conn. will be held outdoors at the Grizz statue immediately following the game.

The action will continue on Friday, Jan. 4 with a “Friday Night Live” Comedy Show from 7-8 p.m. in Vandenberg Dining Center. The evening also features Retro Night from 7-11 p.m. in Bumpers Game Room and “Friday Night at the Movies” from 7-11:30 p.m. in the Oakland Center TV Lounge, located near Bumpers Game Room.
