Tickets for two nights of Meadow Brook Ball available Dec. 5

By Victoria Lipscomb, media relations intern

Oakland University students now have two opportunities to enjoy an enchanted and elegant evening at the annual Meadow Brook Ball.

This year’s ball is unique because there will now be two events, the first on Friday, Feb. 1, and the second on Saturday, Feb. 2. Each dance will take place from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m.

“The initiative to have two dances came about because of the high demand we have received the past years from students,” said Maria Willett, president of Meadow Brook Ball Committee. “Our goal is to sell out so that we can continue to give more students the opportunity to attend the Meadow Brook Ball.”

Tickets to the ball will go on sale at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, at the Center for Student Activities service window located on the lower level of the Oakland Center. Tickets will be $35.00 per couple and $17.50 per individual. Tickets will only be sold to current Oakland students, however students may bring a guest that is not an Oakland affiliate.

“The line to buy tickets usually begins at 4 a.m. as students camp outside the OC to ensure they receive a ticket,” said Jean Ann Miller director of CSA. Students who wish to attend the ball are encouraged to get in line early.

The Meadow Brook Ball is one of the oldest traditions at Oakland, beginning in the 1970’s. It is one of the only formal events at the university, and is only open to current students. A committee of nearly 40 selected this year’s theme “Happily Ever After”.

“The Meadow Brook Ball is one of those “bucket list” events that every Oakland student should attend before they graduate,” said Miller.

Students can look forward to free valet parking, self-guided tours, music provided by WXOU, dancing in the ballroom, a photo booth, a magician, desserts, a body painter, letter art, a midnight raffle, and a string quartet.

“What makes this event special is not only the fact that it is one of OU’s oldest traditions, but it is also the only opportunity Oakland students have to dress up and dance the night away in an amazing place like Meadow Brook Hall,” said Willett.

For additional information about the ball, contact the CSA office at (248) 370-2400 or csa@oakland.edu. To view the Hall visit meadowbrookhall.org.

Tickets to the Meadow Brook Ball will go on sale at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5. This year there will be two dances for one of OU's most popular events.
