Student Organic Farmers to host Thanksgiving goods and produce sale

By Victoria Lipscomb, media relations intern

The Student Organic Farmers of Oakland University are getting in the spirit of the season by hosting a produce and bake sale in time for the Thanksgiving Holiday.

The event will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 21,  in South Foundation Hall. All baked goods for sale will be homemade, prepared with locally sourced and natural organic ingredients.

Baked goods for sale include:

  • Oatmeal cookies
  • Pumpkin bread
  • Pumpkin pie (slices or 8” whole)

“As the weather got cold and our summer crops died we wanted to figure out a way to promote our organization,” said Billy Puuri, president of the Student Organic Farmers organization. “That's how we came up with a Thanksgiving produce and bake sale.”

The group will take pre-orders for pies and bread. Pre-order options are cheaper and guarantee students a pie or bread on the day of the bake sale. Pre-orders will be accepted through Friday, Nov. 16.

Each loaf of bread are $6 and pies are $12. Very few non-pre-ordered pies or breads will be available on the day of the bake sale, and will be sold on a first come basis.

In addition to the baked goods, produce will also be for sale:

  • Potatoes
  • Lettuce
  • Squash
  • Kale
  • Collards
  • Parsley

The Student Organic Farm is located on campus. Anyone can volunteer on the farm. For pre-orders and more information contact the Student Organic Farmers of OU at studentorganicfarmersou@gmail.com.
