OU to celebrate distinguished alumni at annual awards banquet

Oakland University’s 2012 Alumni Awards Banquet will recognize distinguished OU graduates and individuals who have achieved remarkable success in business, community service, volunteerism and other endeavors on Friday, Oct. 26. Presented by the Oakland University Alumni Association, the celebration will also include special recognition of previous alumni award recipients.
Greggory R. Garrett, SECS ’97, president, CGS Advisors LLC, will receive the Distinguished Alumni Service Award. The highest honor granted to alumni, this award recognizes peerless volunteer leadership in service to OU or its alumni association.
Operatic soloist Joel Frederiksen, MM ’90, and Richard D. French, CAS ’84, chairman and chief executive officer of French/West/Vaughan, will receive the Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award, which recognizes outstanding professional achievement or contribution to the community.
Tamra Dukatz, MSN ’93, certified registered nurse anesthetist at Beaumont Health System, will receive the Odyssey Award, which honors alumni whose lives exemplify the university’s motto to “seek virtue and knowledge.”
Anthony Thornton, CAS ’76, manager, Center for Work and Families at Lighthouse of Oakland County, and Robert Thornton, CAS ’77, program officer, The Skillman Foundation, are the recipients of the Spirit Award, which commends exemplary volunteer service to the university.
Lynne Lombard, SHS ’84, physical therapy director, Great Lakes Orthopedic Center, will receive the Alumni Community Service Award, which recognizes distinctive service of a humanitarian nature or citizenship through community, public or OU service activities.
David McGhee, CAS ’05, program director, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Flint, will receive the Outstanding Young Alumni Award. This honor recognizes alumni who have demonstrated the worth of their education through their post-college achievements and have graduated within the last ten years.
U.S. Congressman Gary Peters and Joy Williams, executive events consultant to the president (retired), Oakland University, will be recognized with the Honorary Alumni Award, which is presented to individuals who have not graduated from OU, but have given outstanding service to the university.
