Oakland University’s efforts to become more energy efficient and environmentally friendly have been rewarded with a large rebate from Consumers Energy Business Solutions.
At the completion of a recent maintenance project, Oakland University qualified to receive a $163,750 rebate under the Consumers Energy incentives program.
“This rebate is for doing our part to help reduce energy in Michigan and to help Michigan’s environment,” said Terry Stollsteimer, associate vice president, Facilities Management. “This improvement will reduce the carbon footprint on our campus and will help contribute toward a green environment.”
The university took energy conservation measures into account when replacing more than 50 water heaters at the Ann V. Nicholson Student Apartments.
Oakland’s Facilities Management team investigated several options before choosing new technology with on-demand and tank-less features to replace the aged systems. The decision to install high efficiency water heaters resulted in a $15,000 per year minimum savings in construction costs and energy use.
