Memorial for Professor Emeritus Carl Barnes Jr. scheduled

Cark F. Barnes Jr., 76, died on Friday, May 2012. Carl was born on June 10, 1935. At the time of his death, Dr. Barnes was professor emeritus of Art History at Oakland University, where he taught from 1971 until 2001. He had previously taught at the Pennsylvania State University and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. At Oakland he served as chairman of the Department of Art and Art History, assistant to the dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, and director of the Center for the Arts. Dr. Barnes was a specialist in european medieval art, and published extensively on the drawings of the 13th-century French artist Villard de Honnecourt. He served as president of The International Center of Medieval Art and as president of Association Villard de Honnecourt for the Interdisciplinary Study of Medieval Technology, Science, and Art. He is survived by his wife, Anna M. Barnes; two sons and three grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at the Oakland University Art Gallery on Thursday, December 6, 2012 at 4:30 p.m.
