Zombie expert Max Brooks to offer survival tips to OU community

By Victoria Lipscomb, media relations intern

This fall, the world of the living dead will open at Oakland University, with an event featuring distinguished zombie expert and bestselling author, Max Brooks.

Providing the audience with the latest zombie survival techniques, the event will begin at 7 p.m. on Tuesday Oct. 16, in the Oakland Center Banquet rooms.

Brooks has written two best-selling novels, “The Zombie Survival Guide” and “World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War.” His interest in zombies and zombie survival was sparked by a traumatic childhood incident, something Brooks still refuses to discuss.

“I have heard so many incredible descriptions of his stories,” said Brittni Hutton, president of Student Video Productions. “I know a ton of students love his books. This event is going to be very rewarding for all his fans at OU.”

“World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War” will soon be made into a major motion picture starring actor Brad Pitt. The story depicts the world’s battle against zombies through an array of first person accounts.

Brooks is the son of former actor Mel Brooks and actress Anne Bancroft. He is also a former writer for Saturday Night Live.

“It will be good for students to meet someone who's successful - especially in the topic of zombies,” said Hutton. “I think students will have fun and learn some very interesting things from Max Brooks.”
